Sherblock Holmes – Lo Spettro di Londra [ Gamebook ] | Review

Jul 31, 2024 | reviews

First, I would like to thank Dracomaca for providing us with a physical copy of the Sherblock Holmes – Lo Spettro di Londra gamebook so we could write this review. After the success of the first two books, we finally have a new title in our hands in this interesting format that resembles a notepad. We are talking about 90 small color pages, full of puzzles and illustrations. I invite you to retrieve our review of the first and second gamebooks to have a complete idea of the series.

If you are interested, you can purchase it in a physical version for around €9.90.

The Contents of Sherblock Holmes – Lo Spettro di Londra

As in the first two books, also in this case we will be able to experience our story from the point of view of two different characters. In this case, we are talking about Sherlock Holmes and his trusted companion Doctor Watson, the famous couple who this time will face a dangerous criminal.

The story will develop around a real manhunt and we will have to make our way through witnesses who are too scared to provide us with clear indications. A ghost is wandering around London, but unfortunately, the best team of investigators in the city is hunting him. For the first time, the two protagonists of the gamebook will work together to try to solve the case.

Review of the Rules of Sherblock Holmes – Lo Spettro di Londra

The rules for Sherblock Holmes – Lo Spettro di Londra are extremely short (one page) and simple. It will simply be necessary to continue reading and make your choice at the end of each paragraph. In some pages of the work, we will then find parts of the text written in red. At that moment we can decide to turn the game book upside down to play the adventure as Doctor Watson. This time we will not have different endings, but we will measure our success based on the number of pipes obtained while reading by making the right choices or solving the many puzzles in the game.

Final Considerations

Sherblock Holmes – Lo Spettro di Londra is, like its predecessors, a particular gamebook that I had a lot of fun playing. The puzzles presented this time were different from the previous ones and led me to physically use the game book to solve them. An interesting and above all stimulating choice.

Matteo Zaggia replaces Alberto Orsini as a writer, doing a truly excellent job; not satisfied he also decides to take care of the precious internal illustrations. This brings us a change of style compared to previous gamebooks, but the final result is truly satisfying. The usual external illustrations were entrusted to Adriano Donato la Vitola.
