Jan 6, 2024 | reviews

Today we once again have the pleasure of hosting Space Delirium, proposing the review of their Stardust – Tarot Dice, of the line Tarot Collection. We have already had the opportunity to review Dicecovery – Fractured Universe, the French studio’s next project. Our expectations on this particular set of dice were therefore very high. We therefore take this opportunity to thank them for sending it to us.

If this review of Stardust – Tarot Dice makes you curious and want to purchase them, you can visit the official Space Delirium store. Here you will find the entire rangeStardust – Tarot Collection. We took care of Tarot Dice, or the set of dice specifically dedicated to replicating the tarot experience, which cost 31 euros. But you can also find related cards, like the set Minimalist Tarot from 25 euros or the most compact Mini Tarot, which costs 15.

Bundles are also available with all the possible combinations between the various products, up to and including Stardust Collection, which also contains two dedicated pins and a token to throw, Stardust Fortune. At the cost of 69 euros (22% discount compared to the original 88), it is certainly a nice gift, why not for yourself too. It is not for nothing that Space Delirium also offers the possibility of purchasing special gift cards.

Review of Stardust – Tarot Dice: the Packaging

We must thank William and Alexandra, the two soul mates (in the literal sense: they are twin brothers) behind the French studio: the package arrives in a sturdy box and padded beyond any reasonable possibility of being damaged during transport. They included a small 2024 lunar calendar as a freebie; a pocket-sized card with a wonderful roughness. Paired with a lovely handwritten greeting card that always warms the heart. Happy Holidays to you too, Will and Alex.

The set arrives protected by a small black box, which at first glance conveys the minimal style for which Space Delirium is quickly becoming known. Sans-serif fonts, legible but small, white writing on a black background dotted with tiny stars. Inside is a small black bag containing the dice and a small booklet for their use. The instructions are given first in English and then in French.

What Are These Dice for?

The booklet with instructions is very precious. As far as Stardust – Tarot Dice lends itself perfectly to role-playing games that use tarot cards as an alternative randomization system to classic dice, which was created to replace cards also for divination purposes. The 13 dice allow you to replace the 78 god cards in Rider-Waite tarot (the most widespread coding in the Anglo-Saxon world and which therefore dominates the market).

Twenty-one major arcana, plus the Fool, and each of them is associated with a symbol that maintains the minimalist style of the project but is inspired by the more classic esoteric codes. The minor arcana are the remaining sixty-six cards: the aces, the numbers from 2 to 10, the pages, the knights, the queens and the kings. These cards are spread across the traditional Rider-Waite suits: Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles.

Review of the Divination with Stardust – Tarot Dice

The fundamental premise of the accompanying guide Stardust is that an in-depth analysis of tarot cards and their use should be done elsewhere. Research is the only way, according to the creators of these dice, to deepen your knowledge of the tarot and tune into it. However the Tarot Dice they are recommended as an excellent tool both for practicing and for experimenting with a new approach to this world.

However, three different methods of divination are proposed:

  • take a die at random from the bag and throw it
  • extract a certain number of dice and roll them, arranging them from left to right (the ideal number, in this case, is three dice, for a reading of past – present – future)
  • alternatively, extract one die at a time and roll it, noting the result and placing the die in the bag before extracting it again (in this case it must be decided in advance whether double results should be counted or whether the roll should be repeated)

The guide also contains a description of every single “card” (i.e. every symbol) shown on the faces of the dice. They are concise but complete descriptions, which also reflect the minimalist spirit of Space Delirium. In this way, it is possible to approach the world of tarot cards in a simple but effective way.

Highest Quality Dice

The dice reflect the quality that, as mentioned, we expected from Space Delirium. Thirteen 6-sided dice in the classic 16mm format, with rounded edges; they roll perfectly, and feel nice when shaken in the palm of your hand. These wonderful dice are black, with a light glitter effect which does not make them less elegant, but reinforces that “spatial” and minimalist style that distinguishes Space Delirium.

The symbols and, for the minor arcana, the card values are blank. The contrast is clear but does not tire the eyes, ensuring the best possible readability. Space Delirium has carefully studied every detail, ensuring that its product is also perfect for visually impaired users. Nothing has been left to chance: these dice are balanced and clear to interpret.

Conclusions of the Review of Stardust – Tarot Dice

The Stardust – Tarot Dice are not dice designed specifically for RPGs but for divination. These are dice for tarot reading but which, given the ever-increasing spread of role-playing games that replace the more classic dice with cards, can also be used in this area. They thus maintain the very special feeling that is established between the player and the roll of the dice, without sacrificing the suggestiveness of the major and minor arcana.

As could be expected from Space Delirium, accustomed to working on standards decidedly higher than those of the market, the Stardust – Tarot Dice are a functional design product, but equally beautiful to own. Created for those who want to use tarot cards for divination or entertainment purposes, they are no less useful for those who prefer role-playing games that use them to resolve actions. They are an unmissable gem even for collectors.
