Surely I’m not the first to talk about it, because when Free League start moving numbers grow fast and news run. But I’ll try to analyze their last work, the kickstarter project Vaesen.
Where are we?
While I’m writing Vaesen is hitting 110k € and there are still 20 days. The stats of their previous project show a constant grow with a final acceleration so we can expect more founds and consequently, more goals.
What should we ecpect?
Personally I alrready have Coriolis, Symbaroum, Tales from the Loop and I backed their previous project Things from the Flood and I’m certain this will be a high quality product. Paper, inks, colours, art, layout, everything will be delightful.
Game-speaking the system il the one from Tales from the Loop (Year Zero Engine), simple (good thing or bad thing?) and intuitive system, while the setting will be accurate, specific and in-depth. PC will be created with archetypes and a lot of freedom and narrative pulse. If I have to guess, I don’t expect a game suited for long campaigns or customizable settings, but a short/medium campaigns game best suited for canonical plays. Obviously I expect to be proven wrong by players!
What will arrive?
If you pay for all the physical rewards you will get a lot of stuff. The pledge cost is 61€ andh you will get the hardcover book, the map of the North, the GM screen, the dice set and, luckily, the second book with the adventures. Think about the cost of these items bought separately.
Will it be worth?
It would be good organize a common shipping, than, apart from collection purpose, I suggest to think about it. It is surely a quality product but nor the setting neither the system are mind-breaking revolutionary stuff. You should think carefully if, when you will be at the table playing, for example, the guide, the wise, the mystic, the explorer you will feel something new or exciting or the game will end on a library never raising its position in the “next game I’ll play” ranking.
