Children of the Northern Gods | Review

Aug 14, 2023 | reviews

I want to thank DDF Models (Danilo De Francesco and Giuseppe Minutoli) for sending us the Children of the Northern Gods miniatures in physical format to write this review.

While roleplaying it can be helpful to have visual cues to help the players immerse themselves in the situation. Sometimes they’re maps, other times they’re images, but this time it’s Norse theme miniatures.

If after reading this review you are interested in this product, you can find it in digital format (STL file) on MyMiniFactory for $17, on Cults3D for €16 and €17 on Cubebrush. Of course, keep in mind that the photos included in this review show you the quality of the print sent to us by the authors; depending on the service you rely on, the results could change.

Furthermore, some of the images contain coloured miniatures and we can show them to you in this wonderful version thanks to the skilful work of Jacopo Deidda (which you can find on Instagram and TikTok).

The Subjects of the Miniatures

First of all, I want to say a few words to frame the protagonists of this review. There are two miniatures, both with a Norse theme. The level of detail is excellent and satisfying regardless of the size chosen for printing. I liked the larger one more; it indeed finds less space at the gaming table, but the glance is very remarkable.

In particular, I’m talking about a Norse fighter, commonly identified as a “Viking”; his name is Kharn the Arms Shearer and he is shown in a pose in which he raises both axes and screams at the sky. This miniature features two easily interchangeable heads, one with a helm and one without.

The second subject is Alruna the Valkyrie, another iconic figure from Norse mythology. Her pose shows pride and decision, her spear supports her and her helm only reveals a penetrating gaze; the rest of her equipment is quite skimpy, but after all the Norse are famous for not fearing death.

Also, available in the Children of the Northern Gods purchasable pack are two extra accessories that are not featured in this review; these are Norse ruins and a monolithic sword.

Possible Uses

As anticipated, these miniatures have two possible uses. You can use them on your battle map during fights (as antagonists or as a representation of your characters) or just to show something cool. In both cases, they can be satisfactory, but evaluate a print that enhances the details (and choose the most suitable print size accordingly). It would be a real shame to miss them!

However, it is important to specify that the use of the files must remain personal. In fact, there is no license that allows you to sell printed miniatures.

Children of the Northern Gods Review Conclusions

To be simple and direct, the Children of the Northern Gods that you can admire in the images included in this review are lovely. These STL files are a great starting point for high-quality miniatures!

One detail must be kept in mind: they are very specific; they’re great for Norse contexts and rightly so. The authors have wisely chosen to provide similar packages so that you can only buy what really interests you.
